With great sorrow, his family shares the news that Ernest William Hoffman—known to all as “Bill”—passed at Arden Courts in Kenwood on April 16, 2024, after several years’ battle with the progressive losses of atypical Parkinsonism. He was 77 years old.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marjorie; brother, Charles Greg Henderson; daughters Amy Robin (Andrew Hearin), Cassie, and Jill (William March); and grandchildren Molly, Liam, and Wesley March. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Jo Henderson (Charles Henderson), and sister, Susan Helder.
Born in Cincinnati and a proud graduate of St. Xavier High School and the University of Cincinnati, Bill enjoyed the rare distinction of having lived on both the east and west sides of town. Finally settling in Kenwood with his young family allowed him to continue supporting his mother and brother. But he loved learning about and traveling the world–especially with his wife of 45 years, his constant partner in all endeavors. They visited their daughters in the US and abroad; they cruised oceans; and they strolled on countless beaches. Bill’s lifelong interest in poker, horse racing, and sports occasioned many trips as well and formed the basis of some of his many enduring friendships. He was a voracious reader and a devoted movie buff, sharing both enthusiasms with his daughters, who were his true pride and joy.
Bill devoted his 33-year career to supporting people with disabilities, first as a teacher and later as a workshop director for Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services. After retiring he committed even more time to volunteering as a soup kitchen administrator and server, quietly honoring his belief in his responsibility to care for those less fortunate than himself.
The community is invited to a visitation in his honor on Thursday, April 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gilligan Funeral Home, 8225 Montgomery Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gertrude’s in Madeira at 9:30 am on Friday, April 19. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be directed to the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or Stepping Stones (www.steppingstonesohio.org/donate).
